• Total NEWBIE to WordPress. I downloaded Sydney and other required plugins to start playing per website recommendations.
I’m having an issue figuring out how the sidebar was added to the “SAMPLE PAGE” under pages. I tried using Gutenberg and even elementor (FREE). In elementor, I see the sidebar widget in elementor, which placed it in the “main” body, but I cannot click on or modify the content in either sidebars (new widget or existing on page).
I noticed that this sidebar setup is also in the posts page.
    Assistance is appreciated.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for contacting us.

If I understood you correctly. What you’re seeing is block-based widget editing screen that is added since WordPress 5.8. And of course the same screen isn’t seen on some older documentations.

I’d recommend enabling Classic Widgets plugin in case you are not familiar enough with the latest widgets screen.

Hope this reply helps. Andd let me know if you have different concerns.

    Regards,
    Kharis

    Possibly block based …?
I am playing with this using Bitnami WordPress (5.8) on my computer to develop a site local on my computer before transferring to a host.

Thank you for the quick response. When looking at any page, either in Gutenberg (WordPress edit) or Elementor (Free), I cannot find the area for the sidebar.
    1. Guttenberg shows nothing that looks like a sidebar in the blocks for that page
    2. Elementor shows the sidebar on the right, BUT, there is no way to click on the section to edit it. Within an Elementor section, I am able to input a “new” sidebar with the Elementor widget and it displays the same information … still cannot edit what data shows up

    Hi @elsid1,

    Thank you for getting back.

The theme’s sidebar can be managed separately from pages. And it is located under Appearance menu > Widgets.

If you see a section on particular editor like Elementor, perhaps that’s only a preview. That’ why it doesn’t allow you edit widgets directly from current page. But you can manage it from Widgets screen under Appearance menu.

    Hope this reply helps.

    Regards,
    Kharis
