    Hello everybody,

I am creating an e-commerce in which the potential customer must have the possibility to request a sample product at a fixed cost of € 5.

I would not like to use paid plugins, so I am looking for a “smart” solution.

I created a hidden product in the shop called “Product Sample” to which I assigned the price of 5 €. In the product pages I put the shortcode that creates the button to buy the “Sample product” and everything works perfectly.

The only problem is that in the cart I only see the generic name “Product sample” and this makes the order impossible to manage. Instead, I would also need to see the title of the page on which the button was clicked, so that “Example product” is combined with the name of the specific product chosen.

I try to give an example: e-commerce sells Apples and Bananas. The product pages contain the same “request a sample product” button (connected to the same “Sample product”). When the customer requests a sample product of the Banana product, I would like to see “Sample product – Banana” in the cart.

Do you think it is solvable? Thank you.
    Good day.

  • Hello,

One way I can think of without using plugins is change the product type of “Sample Product” to Variable Product, and add attributes (e.g. Apple and Banana): https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/variable-product/

On the “Sample Product” page, your customers would have to choose a product (apple or banana) in order to checkout, but that way, the specific product chosen will be displayed in the cart as well as back-end.

Thanks for your response maykato, it is certainly a good idea.

The only problem is that I have more than 400 products and I would have to make 400 variations for the “Sample Product” and it’s not very comfortable to manage, so I am looking for an “automatic” solution.

    Hi,

Thank you for your reply. As there isn’t an easy solution to achieve the automatic solution like the way you explained, you may need to consider customization – in which case, we recommend getting in touch with a web developer or one of the services here to have that custom developed for you.

The above suggestion for getting help with a custom button is good, and then I would add that you can do the initial suggestion of making your products variable (with one option being the sample) a lot quicker.

You can make one product into a variable product, then export your products and duplicate that product settings to your other products in a CSV using something like Excel. In this way, you can set all 400 products to be variable with a sample option in a much quicker way.
