I’ve written a few blog entries, but noticed that if the entry is more than a few lines and it says “Continue reading”, I get a Not Found error when I click on the link.
Do blogs for basic members only allow a few lines or is it a dreaded BUG!

  • There is not a limit length but posts on the front page only show an excerpt and then link to the full post.

For the menu, if you go to Appearance > Menu there you can create a menu and assign it to one of the positions that the theme supports. Currently that is above the header or below the header. If you don’t do this then then the theme, by default, will simply list all of your pages.

James, I don’t understand what you mean. Keep in mind, I’m not a programmer, so you’ll need to be specific about what exactly that menu is supposed to be. What specific word or words needs to go there?

On that post, the only one that said continue reading was the only one that said not found, so I figured it must be the length…how do I fix it?

I’ve been very specific. This is not programmer speak I’m referring to, it’s WordPress dashboard speak.

For the post issue I would need to see the problem to actually diagnose it. I can’t base my answer one what you said was happening because I really don’t understand what you said you experienced.

@lonphillips, perhaps it would be better hiring someone to do the work for you? If so, try https://jobs.wordpress.net .

    That’s cuz *I* don’t either!

    Ha! Fair enough.

I changed the menu name to Home, since that’s the first item. Is that what you mean by position? The items are still in the same order.

That’s just the menu name. In the left sidebar of that page there is a box titled Theme Locations. You have to assign the menu to one of the two locations there.

Andrew, I’m disabled AND poor, so I can’t afford to have someone to it for me! Before my stroke, I used to be a fair programmer, but now I did wordpress because I wouldn’t have to do a lot of work setting it up.

So, I have to put in either Above the Header or Below the Header for the theme position? I don’t understand what is meant by above or below the header? Is the current location of the menu items below the header? is that what they mean?

That is the location where your menu will appear. The page listing you have currently is below the page header. Use that if you want your custom menu to be in the same location as your page listing is now.

Is the current position below the header? Below My Cave? Or what header do they mean?

Your links that you currently have are below the header. Thats the one you want.

Changed it to Below the Header, those exact words, but the menu items aren’t rearranged the way they show in dashboard. I saved both places, right below Below the Header and at the end of the menu items, but they aren’t rearranged at the site. BUMMER!

Well, the only reason is because you must not have saved a setting or something. Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to assist you any further. The kind of assistance you require is not really conducive for the free support forums.

My apologies that I couldn’t help you more. Good luck.
