• Hi,

I am moving a WordPress site from somebody else’s 1&1 account to my own 1&1 hosting account, while keeping the domains (there are two of them, a .co.uk and a .com) exactly the same.

Will this affect the site’s ranking on search engines, particularly google?

The site (https://www.rosemarybailey.com) is currently the top result when you search for the name of the individual. Will this change when I redirect that address to a new site?

I say “new site” because I am not really “moving” the site, but rebuilding it from scratch within WordPress 3.4.1 on my host, and importing the content via .xml. Previously it was version 2.8.2. I will be using essentially the same theme, content, posts, structure, etc and it will appear exactly the same. Does this confuse search engines, or will they not notice?

    Thanks for your help.

There are a lot of factors involved in Google search rankings. In my past research, I’ve found that if I’ve kept the same site content and the same permalink structure, the Google rankings have stayed the same even after changing the host. That doesn’t account for other factors that might change though. Since you are redesigning site and changing the theme, the underlying html will change and that could affect rankings regardless of the host.

Have seen this already on another post, but want to clarify.

The other option is to get the original site files and do a manual upgrade using those.
