I am using version 4.302 of the Event Manager. This is a small cosmetic issue.

The Event Manager automatically generates e-mail messages to web site visitors who sign up for an event. The first line of the e-mail is typically “Dear <visitor’s name>, blah blah blah”. When the recipient of the e-mail reads the message, in front of the word “Dear” are three extra blank characters which cause “Dear” to be indented from the left margin relative to the rest of the e-mail message.

These characters do not exist in the Event Manager settings which configure each of these e-mail messages. All the various e-mail messages (pending approval, approved, cancelled, rejected) seem to have the same problem.

  • I’m not getting this. Do normal WP mails do it too or is it just EM?

Maybe you could try a different email type (btw, if you try wp_mail, you need the dev version, there’s a bug that’s fixed on there with this method)

    Marcus,

I’m not sure what you mean by “normal WP mails”.

I changed the “Mail sending method” from “PHP mail function” to “SMTP” and now the leading spaces are gone and the e-mail salutation looks fine. I double-checked by changing back to “PHP mail function” and the leading spaces returned. So I have a solution and you have an explanation.

If there is something more I can tell you to help you identify the problem, feel free to ask. You may need to guide me a bit to it, depending on what you need.

Marcus, many thanks for your time and trouble!

This is probably to do with your mail server settings. that said, haven’t tested the php mail in a while. Will check and see.

    Marcus,

I’m marking this issue as “resolved”, but if you need anything further from me, don’t hesitate to ask.

i tried this on a test server and didn’t get this, good chance it’s to do with your server settings (or potentially another plugin)

    Marcus,

I would lean towards it being something to do with the server (PHP?). I had most plug-ins disabled, but I don’t recall whether I tested with and without the Gantry framework plug-in disabled, so that remains a possibility.
