I have been using WooCommerce on three websites for years, and have sales tax set up to charge for sales in Florida only. All of a sudden customers from out of state, are getting charged sales tax! They don’t have a Florida address, or zip code entered, yet they are being charged sales tax.

Also, there is a setting somewhere (can’t find it now) where you can “force” shipping to the billing address, so people can’t divert shipments to addresses different than their billing address. I have had this set up from day one, then all of a sudden, on an order today, the invoice shows both a billing and shipping address.

Any idea on how to fix these issues?

    Howdy @photomj,

The setting to force shipping to the billing address is at WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping Options. More on that here.

Regarding the sales tax, is the site using the WooCommerce Tax extension’s “Automated Tax” calculation? This is a plugin, separate from the WooCommerce plugin, designed to automatically calculate tax within the store’s base region (or “tax nexus”). In this case, the tax nexus would be Florida. We have more on the extension’s settings here.

    1. If the site is using the WooCommerce Tax extension/plugin, please verify that the store’s base address is set correctly and that “Enable Automated Taxes” is set at WooCommerce > Settings > Tax.

    2. If not using the WooCommerce Tax extension/plugin, please open a new forum topic in the main WooCommerce support forum for help setting up taxes manually with the WooCommerce plugin.

Thanks so much for the quick reply.

I must have had a brain aneurysm…I did see that force shipping once you told me where it was! I did look earlier today but probably didn’t drill down into sub menus.

I am not using the sales tax plug in. I have always used the tax settings within Woo Commerce and it has worked fine….until today, when someone from South Carolina got charged FL State Sales Tax!

I will go open a new topic in the main forum, per your advice.

    Thanks again!
