    Hello,

I recently imported a ton of content from Blogger to my WordPress site. To do this, I hired a developer and created a user account for her as an administrator. She then ran a plugin and imported all of the content while logged in under her username. All of the posts are attributed to me as the author; however, when she ran the importing, I received emails (based on my subscription settings) indicating that SHE had just made new posts on the site.

My question is this: Can I safely delete her as a user? I’m assuming that (1) I can delete her, and (2) when deleting her, I should select “attribute all content to [me]” rather than “delete all content”. But I want to be careful.

I apologize if this question is idiotic; I just want to make sure that I don’t inadvertently delete my content.

    Thanks,
    Jeremy

  • Nothing is one hundred percent safe but as long as you have a good set of backups just in case, have your own admin-level account, and attribute the posts to someone remaining on the site you should be fine.

The backups would be there as a safety net if anything did go wrong.

Optionally you can use the quick editor to change the author if there isn’t too many posts to deal with under that author.

Deleting that user wouldn’t mess up the posts then.

As @jnashhawkins said do a backup first and then delete the user and assign all posts to you, am pretty sure you wont have any problem.

Thanks guys. Related question: Any recommendations for backup plugins? I installed UpdraftPlus, and I tried running backups, but it keeps saying that errors occurred and that the backups never finished. I’ll post a question on their support forum, but in the meantime, I figured I’d ask if you had any other suggestions for backups.

    Thanks,
    Jeremy

Update: For whatever reason, UpdraftPlus wasn’t downloading to Google properly, so I switched to Dropbox and it worked. I’ll mark this as resolved. Thanks guys.
