Safe recommended alternative?

I’m struggling to implement a new plugin as it’s been awhile since I got this one working. Is there someone that can provided a recommended replacement plugin that I can use to display my recent posts onto my homepage (just one short code). I had been using a short code with this, and for some reason not sure how to find the short code to implement with an alternative solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
