I have a quick question about safe mode and I’m hoping someone can help.

We are getting ready to migrate a website to WP Engine. When we do this, it will create a staging URL until we have moved the DNS.

    For example: bikes.wpengine.com

So, there will be two domains that are using the same Jetpack connection. (bikes.wpengine.com) and (www.bikes.com)

When I first go to the staging server, am I going to be greeted with the safe mode screen? Which option should I chose? Stay in safe mode?

After I move the DNS and the website is no longer using the staging URL, will the message automatically go away?

    Thank you for you help.

  • Hi @mharmontx

You’ve mentioned migrating to WP Engine soon, and going through a Staging URL before that.

Depending on how you’ll proceed with this, you’ll likely get the Safe Mode (which happens when you entirely clone a website from staging to production or vice-versa).

My suggestion is to disconnect Jetpack before proceeding to the migration, and you can then reconnect it after you fully migrated the website and activated the domain name there. The disconnection and reconnection process is illustrated below:

Let us know if you have any other questions.
