    Hi!

I really can’t find a way to solve my problem. Please help ??

I’ve made a custom menu and want to open one of the menu links (PRESS) in a new window. I’ve checked the box “Open link in a new window/tab” and it works fine in Firefox. However, in Safari it doesn’t work! When you “right-click” the link and tell it to open in a new window it opens and shows the right page. But when I just click on the link it goes back to my main page. Totally strange!

Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!

  • Don’t depend on “open in a new tab/window” behavior. It is browser dependent and user configurable. It is really beyond your control. Put another way, you can’t control what browsers people use, what settings they change, or what extensions they install. And if you search “Safari target _blank” you will see that a lot of people are wondering about this. Safari is only about 5% of you users statistically, so you may not want to worry too much about this issue. It doesn’t really effect display or usability.

Plus, while it is still not uncommon, I consider it bad behavior to force open new tabs or windows, and so do a lot of other people if you search the subject.

I’d consider using Thickbox for this. The Thickbox script is bundled with WordPress so it is pretty easy to do.

Loudly seconded! In fact, by doing this would completely strand some user groups and make it impossible for them to go back to the original page/site.
