Can you try this custom CSS to add;

@media not all and (min-resolution:.001dpcm) { 
    @supports (-webkit-appearance:none) and (stroke-color:transparent) {
         .flex-row.row.column-content-wrapper:before{
             display: none;
         } 
    }
}

You can add these codes from Appearance > Customize page and Additional CSS panel.

Also, I am not sure is this related Custom Sidebars plugin or not. Did you try deactivating the plugin and try with original sidebar? If the problem still continues you need to contact theme developers about it.

it told me there was an error in the code, but the the appearance in Customise looks like it put the sidebar widget prompt to the side.

There is 1 error which must be fixed before you can save.
Update anyway, even though it might break your site?
