Yes – also having this issue. Have been through the threads here, but can;t see a solution.

Plugin works great apart from this – have had to move to another plugin until this can be resolved.

    Any updates in the pipeline?

    thanks!

    which plugin do you use?
does it offer the same options?

    Hi Reichi

Using WordPress Download Manager/ and seems to be fine – there’s a free version which does nearly everything this plugin does, but not much to upgrade to the pro version, which has a lot of good features.

    And it’s supported!

unfortunatly i need the coupon codes … and every code shoud be a different one … i can’t see an option in WordPress Download Manager for that!

Yeah, not quite the same as this plugin, but you can have various pages with various codes.

Would prefer to be using this plugin really, but need to get sorted.

yeah want to use this plugin as i need the option to only have one page where ou can reddem your code and what you get is dependet from the code!

want to give away codes for digital downloads for vinyl or download cards for different artist!

Actually, the general challenges to write and support this plugin are:

    1. I have to do this in my spare time, and currently, I am alone. Had some support in the past to make an upgrade to version 2, but not at the moment.
    2. The setup dependencies between different browsers and operation systems and also servers (and other installed WP plugins) seems to be terribly complicated. I cannot reproduce any of the recent errors mentioned in this form. Unfortunately, because I would like to fix them. But I simply can’t, because I cannot change any code blindly.

Anyone here who can support doing local code changes in such failure scenarios and provide me with the potential fix so that I can incorporate the same in a new version?

If its any consolation this issue only seems to exhibit the URL file name problem on Macs using newer OS version defo an issue with Safari and Snow Leopard … the file is not actually corrupted in my case just URL named if you rename and add a .zip (dot zip) to the end (in my case) you can actually open the file. I will continue to investigate the apple side of things and come back if I find anything but this is not my expertise ??

Be gentle with the Author … the so called standards in the browser market is a joke and is certainly a continually moving target other than this issue its a great piece of work. My son has no problem on his pre-snow leopard Mac with safari … so is it the OS or Safari and if so what versions of each … certainly something to do with Octet but what???

Thank you. I will try to work on the issues and provide everyone with a working version. I will also check out WP Download Manager and see what they have implemented.

Misanthrop, thanks for getting back to us, and keeping a dialogue going – I do appreciate you are doing this on your own in your free time, and there is a lot to think about – think it’s great that you want to keep working on it. Really like the plugin, very good work!

So guys, I have incorporated some best practices into the download process as promised in version 2.4.0. This is trial and error I have to confess because I do not have a proper environment setup to reproduce your issues.

I also included x-sendfile support, so if you are running Apache, then you could give it a try.

Two more things came to my attention:

    1. If you are running TLS (HTTPS), then there can be problems with the cache-control.
    2. If you are running Apache and mod_deflat is enabled, then there can also be problems: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1972642/sending-correct-file-size-with-php-download-script
