Sacraficing Blog Entries

  • I went to my site and found this message waiting for me on the home page:

    Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the connection information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double check it and try again.

    * Are you sure you have the correct user/password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

    So I logged onto my cPanel and all of my freaking databases are GONE! I am so mad right now… Since my databases got deleted, does that mean that all of my blog entries and comments and stuff are gone? Or are they stored in their own file or something?

    Sounds like your hosting provider dropped the ball. Hopefully they have backups lying around. Contact them ASAP.

    I hope you’ve been backing up regularly. =(

    Thanks for the fast replies guys. They restored my databases right after I posted this and my blog is still there… but still, the question remains, where are my blog entries stored?

    Everything, including posts, comments, user data, is stored in the database you specified when you installed WP. Therefore it wouldn’t be a bad idea to back up regularly. You can easily do that through cPanel if your host has that installed.

    Thanks for all the help. I guess my host made backups of everything then cause i certainly haven’t!! Going to go do that now! thanks again!
