    Hi everyone,
I am new to WordPress and more generally to website creation. So I hope my question will not be a silly one. To explain the background, I paid a professional in order to setup for me a simple “coaching site” based on BeTheme coaching2, then I filled it myself and now I am trying to “proof” it with tools I have found in www.
Specifically, Ryte is telling me that the language settings of my pages are too specific and that I could loose the capability to rank in other markets due to this. In fact, the web site is in italian, but I would like it to be addressed to both Italy and Switzerland, where there is a significant minority speaking italian language.

Now my question is: does it make sense to set the language to “it” but not to set the country? and where is the option for this? I have looked around but do not find anything pertinent.
    Thanks a lot
    best regards
    Claudio

  • I don’t know what “Ryte” is but there is no need to set the country.

You say you set the language to “it” but your web page shows: lang=”it-IT” — no need to declare it twice.

    lang=”it” is fine

Hi @website-rob and thanks a lot for the answer.

You are basically confirming what I have been “told”. But where can I set this? Up to now I never coded anything in the page source code, I use WordPress and a few Plugins, and the Theme Options of BeTheme.

The question may sound strange but you have to consider that I am “learning” to manage and maintain a web site that was created for me, initially, as an “empty draft”, by a professional.

Thanks a lot if you can point me to “how” to change this setting. Do I have to edit some theme files?

    Best regards
    Claudio

PS: I found Ryte because the Yoast SEO Plugin has a “Ryte indexability index” inside, and I was curious to know more. It is a platform where one can get free and premium accounts and let their “engine” inspect your website and give feedback about the quality, one of these feedback is the one that I have shown in my picture in the original post. Since I do wish to address both Italy and italian speakers in Switzerland (so probably it-IT and it-CH) I would like to correct the “issue”.

From reading text on the img you provided, it sounds like Ryte means there is more than one (or two) Country’s that speak Italian. I have no idea if that’s what they mean or if that is true. If you are only seeking Italian speaking people then I would disregard their msg.

As to where you change Language settings, that should be available within the Theme Customize Settings.

Thanks @website-rob ! : ok. I’ll ignore the message following your advice.

I do not find in the Theme Customize Settings or in Theme Options anything related to choosing the meta tag for language (of course there is the language setting in the WordPress General Settings), but never mind.

And yes, there are italian speaking people in Switzerland, that’s exactly my point. I think I found a Plugin that could do the trick (namely writing only “lang=it”, but I do not trust it, because it is old and not up to date.

Thanks, I’m marking this post as resolved.
