Hello. When trying to update to the latest version 5.1.6 from 5.1.5 of the events calendar on my staging website, it failed with a Runtime Error. This resulted in the plugin being deleted during the update. When I looked in my plugins folder in my file manager, the-events-calendar folder did not have any files left in it. There were just empty folders left. Here is the error information:

    WordPress version 5.5
Current theme: Parabola Child Theme (version 2.0.4.1475005150)
Current plugin: The Events Calendar (version 5.1.5)
    PHP version 7.4.9

  • I am with Modern Tribe. Using either your file manager or SFTP, please try to remove the plugin manually and then manually reinstall.

Hi. It does install without error after deleting the entire folder for the plugin and then reinstalling new. Do you have an idea though from the error what the problem is? I would rather when I do the update on my production site be able to update normally and not have to delete the folder and install again. Thank you.

We did a bunch of testing and believe this was a one-off issue you experienced where something went wrong during the ZIP file extraction. This should not be the experience you have on future updates.

If you do encounter this issue in the future, please open a new support issue thread and we’ll work with you to see if there is something special about your environment – this is definitely not the experience we want for people using our plugins.
