Running Metadata Update Huge problem

If it is a small site with little traffic using the built in WP-Cron, you should probably switch to an external cron to ensure that WP keeps backgrounds jobs such as WP Offload Media’s upgrades ticking along.

If that’s not the issue, then you can tune the updates to increase how many items they process per batch, and decrease the interval between batches.

You’ll need to work out which upgrade routine is slow for you and adjust accordingly their schedules and limits. There’s examples in the Tweaks plugin.

The examples above are for the 2.3 “as3cf_items_table” upgrades that set the OME Post Meta Version to “8” on completion (you can see this in the diagnostics).

Since that release there have also been:

We don’t recommend adjusting these settings via the filters unless you are absolutely sure your server can deal with the changes, we set these upgrades to be light on resources.
