Hi, I’m an experienced web developer but this is my first time using WordPress. I wanted to trial using Events Calendar before purchasing a license. I downloaded Studio by WordPress.com, clicked add site, added the plugin using the search, and activated it. Afterwards, I saw this error:

Warning: The Events Calendar REST API endpoints are not accessible! This may be due to a server configuration or another plugin blocking access to the REST API.
Please check with your hosting provider or system administrator to ensure that the below is accessible:
    https://localhost:8882/index.php?rest_route=/tribe/events/v1

Based on some searching here, I see this is a common error. I thought maybe it was a red herring and tried testing anyway. I created an event, and I’m able to access it via this URL: https://localhost:8882/?tribe_events=test-1

However, the events page (https://localhost:8882/?post_type=tribe_events) lists “There are no upcoming events” and when I try to click on the Month or Day tabs, nothing changes.

I tried again, creating a different site, and got the same results. I’m not sure what could be going wrong since this seems like the happiest of paths. Here’s the questions I’m left wondering…

    • Does Events Calendar not work with the Studio defaults (WP, PHP, or the “Twenty Twenty-Four” theme)?
    • Is Events Calendar not supposed to work locally?
    • Is a license required even for the free version?

    WP Version: 6.6.1

    PHP Version: 8.1

    Events Calendar Version: 6.6.0.2

    macOS: Sonoma 14.5

    VPN: off

    Antivirus: none

    Hi @vanish9335,

The message about REST API endpoints is a false positive, and it doesn’t mean the REST API is disabled. This shouldn’t be affecting your site or the functionality of the plugin. Our developers are aware of this, and they are working on improving the notice.?

The Events Calendar is a free plugin that doesn’t need a license, and should work locally. About how it works with Studio, unfortunately I’m not familiar with this software. You should be able to use the plugin locally with XAMPP or WAMP. Note that we are not fully compatible with FSE themes such as “Twenty Twenty-Four”, so it would be great if you test your site with another theme.

About the events list issue, I suspect there’s a conflict that’s causing the issue here. It would be good to test for conflicts. Could you follow the following steps?

    1. Deactivate all other plugins except for The Events Calendar Plugins.
    2. Switching to the Default theme.

Besides that, switch to pretty permalinks and resave the settings in WP Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks, and check if it helps.

As mentioned, this is a brand new site. No other plugins are activated.

    2. Switching to the Default theme.

Are you asking me to switch to a theme from 2015? Does Events Calendar not support modern default themes?

Besides that, switch to pretty permalinks and resave the settings in WP Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks, and check if it helps.

There is no mention of “pretty permalinks” on the page mentioned. I’ve included a screenshot below.

    Hi @vanish9335,

We don’t yet fully support FSE themes, since 2020 theme is not a FSE I asked you to switch to it to figure out whether the issue is related to the theme or not.

For the Permalinks, select “Post name”, save the settings and navigate to the events page by clicking on Events menu on the top bar.
See this article to learn more about WordPress Permalinks: WP Permalinks

It switched to that theme and I didn’t see any change in behavior.

For the Permalinks, select “Post name”, save the settings and navigate to the events page by clicking on?Events?menu on the top bar.

I updated to use that setting option and I didn’t see any change in behavior.

The events page is still empty. Studio by WordPress.com has a demo site feature, so I published it and it’s viewable if you’d like to see for yourself. It’s still using the 2020 theme.

    Hi @vanish9335,

Thank you for sharing the URLs.

I don’t see any error that causes this issue on your site. Could you reinstall The Events Calendar and check if it helps? Also try different Events template in Events > Settings > Display.

Besides that, I would recommend contacting your host provider (Studio by WordPress.com) and asking them if they have a caching setting. They need to exclude our files from being cached by following this article: <u>Cache Basics</u>

Meanwhile, you can request a demo on our site to test our products: https://demo.theeventscalendar.com/request-demo-site/

Could you reinstall The Events Calendar and check if it helps?

When trying to reinstall I’m getting the following error: “Installation failed: The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature”

I went ahead and re-installed via ZIP from the official plugin site and didn’t see any change in behavior.

    Also try different?Events template?in?Events > Settings > Display.

I tried this. While the layout UI changed, it still listed no events.

Besides that, I would recommend contacting your host provider (Studio by WordPress.com) and asking them if they have a caching setting.

As I understand it, WordPress.com is the official host offering from the WordPress organization. Since I’m new to WordPress, I don’t know their caching settings. But I’m surprised you don’t seem to know since it’s the official, first-party offering…?

From my own research in their docs: “If you have a lower-level plan, it is not possible or necessary to clear your site’s cache (as the cache is cleared automatically.)” I also went ahead and cleared my browser’s cache, but assuming you’re seeing the same thing I don’t think that’s particularly relevant.

Meanwhile, you can request a demo on our site to test our products:

I’ll request a demo, but if I’m not able to get this plugin working on a new/blank site from WordPress themselves, that really doesn’t bode well. At an organization level you should probably be testing against WordPress.com regularly to maintain stability.

    Hi @vanish9335

    Thanks for your response.

After attempting to reproduce the issue on a newly created sandbox site, I found that it is functioning as intended. However, when I installed Studio on my personal computer, I could replicate the issue.

I have already informed the team about this and will keep you updated once I have more information.

I’m not seeing any change in behavior.

    • I started a new site via WordPress.com Studio (WP 6.6.2, PHP 8.1)
    • Changed it’s theme to “Twenty Twenty”
    • Installed the Events Calendar plugin (6.6.4)
    • Updated the site’s “Timezone” to a city name
    • Updated the “Permalink structure” setting to “Post name”
    • Created a couple test events occurring in the future
    • Opened the Events page; it displays no events and clicking the List/Month/Day tabs doesn’t work

Getting the same error testing on playground. I can create an event, but the events calendar does not display any events.
