    hello,

It seems that theres some odd loop error in our backup, unfortunately. To solve the issue ive installed WP-Cron Events so the backup happens at 4am; and ive set so that it uses dropbox.

We run the backup weekly (today) but the site was so very slow – eventually we had to get a tech support to sort it out, we were stuck on a cron job and must have been the UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin.

Its been a great plugin, we did use the license on 2015 and we hope to use it – but could there be some issue for us? As said ive tried placing it on a 4am time and dropbox, but it seems to go into a loop. The site isnt massive (160 pages/posts) but we seem to have a lot of space used on one backup:
Web-server disk space in use by UpdraftPlus: 837.8 MB

Any solutions would be great thank you.

    Hi,

    Apologies for the delay.

Please could you send us a copy of the latest backup log?
This is available through the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.

The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Hi,

From the log, it appears that the rate at which the backup files can be created is quite low. The most likely cause is that the read/write speed (I/O rate) on the server is not very high.
You can ask your hosts if it is possible to raise this. Alternatively, you can try running backups at a quiet time of day, when less resources are being used by other processes.

One other issue that I can see is that a captcha plugin is creating and deleting files in the uploads folder as the backup is running. This is causing some issues.
Please could you add the following to the Uploads ‘Exclude these’ list in the settings:
    wpcf7_captcha

This will exclude the folder of temporary files from the backup.

Thank you DNutbourne for your time, very much appreciate it.

I did install WP-Cron Schedules and placed it on a 3am schedule, tuesday (and linked the backup to Dropbox) so i was hoping that that would fix the issue, but as said the site was so slow tuesday morning and the tech support said there was a loop issue – the killed the cron settings and suddeny the site was quick again (so thats why im here).

Ive set the Exclude as both:

    backup*,*backups,backwpup*,wp-clone,wpcf7_captcha
    upgrade,cache,updraft,backup*,*backups,wpcf7_captcha

I will also ask the webhost about this as well.

    Hi,

The UpdraftPlus backup process was looping due to the errors caused by the changing captcha uploads file.
Please could you run another test backup? With the directory excluded, the issue should not repeat.

Thank you, its much better now. Ive set the update at 3am weekly – it does take sometime, i must admit the backup really puts into a strain on the server; no one can really use the site during it, 40 secs delay in pages etc – but at least it doesnt get into the loop.

very much appreciate the help ??
