• Hello all,

I’m using WordPress as a magazine-style CMS for my site here. I only want posts from certain categories to be posted on the front page (i.e. ‘News’ and ‘Forthcoming Projects’) while others I want viewable only by clicking on the specified category (i.e. ‘Press’). I presume this requires tinkering with the .php or is there a plugin – could it even be achieved through CSS? Any tips or points in the right direction would be heartily welcomed. Many thanks!

  • Something like this?:

There are plenty more, just look for ‘wordpress plugin category exclude’ with Google.

Fantastic – worked a treat – thank you VERY much. Now there is a follow-up question.. I’d like the category bars down the right to appear on all pages except the front/home page – any ideas? Much obliged!

That’s not an easy question. You can make a PHP file withouth sidebara and use it for your index, or you can make a non-widget sidebar and make another sidebar for the index, but if you want to keep using widgets, this is way over my head.

Would it be possible to create a rule in CSS that stops each category from being displayed on the front page? Something like
    h3.catt-9
    display: none

?is it possible to refer to specific pages in CSS? Many thanks in advance!
