I’ve tried this theme two times. The first time I did not notice it was the base of ruining my multisite install. Somehow it started a critical error when trying to switch themes. It wasn’t until after I noticed in the database table theme_mods for some theme that was empty that I could fix the issue. Now it happened again. It also deleted my upgrade to WordPress 5.8 beta 2 on my test site and yet again made it impossible to switch to a theme. I have to do a re-install of my WordPress multisite tomorrow due to this error.

Update! It was not due to this theme, it had to do with Gutenberg plugin. Sorry. I am changing my rating of this theme.

  • I have no connection whatsoever to the Blockbase theme, but I do have my own FSE theme and did also encounter a similar issue. This was caused by an error in the Gutenberg plugin that looks to have now been fixed.
There doesn’t seem to be anything in the Blockbase theme that would cause this error. FSE themes are very minimal in code.
So I just wanted to say it is a little unfair to rate the Blockbase theme so low because of an issue with the Gutenberg plugin. Again I have no connection to this theme but I am eager to see the progression of FSE themes in general.

Ok, I’m sorry @uxl for that. I had no idea, but I know that the Gutenberg plugin is also a bit buggy from time to time. I can remove my rating if that’s possible? It makes sense that it has more to do with a plugin than a theme. Still, I’m a total newb regarding block themes, so again, I’m sorry.

Also, I have now switched from a multisite install to a single install and I could use the theme after that.

That’s okay no need to apologize.

I don’t think the issue is with multisite. It looked likely to be caused by some changes to the Site Logo block in Gutenberg, which has now been fixed.

You shouldn’t need to do a re-install. Simply deleting the theme_mods_blockbase entry in the options table will force that data to be correctly recreated automatically.

Ahh, good to know. Thank you.
