• Since I’ve been a part of WordPress, here, and as having a WP site, I noticed a few things here that I need to mention.

1. Ignoring topics – I posted 2 topics, its been 2 weeks, and not even a “Have you solved this yet?” on either one, let alone the support I was requesting.

2. Plain rudeness – It’s plain rude to delete a person’s further request for help when the person has waited over a week to bump the topic. Also, looking around, have seen many issues of “Forum Staff” being rude to customers. Especially in regard to deleting accounts.

This is not the way to run support, nor for forum staff to treat regular members. If it was not for all the work I did to get my WP site up and running, I’d also request to have account deleted, and NO would not be acceptable if I did ask.

A member has the RIGHT to have their account deleted from a site. If not mistaken, it is required that they have the option of having the account deleted, either themselves, or by making request. Privacy issues, is what I believe is why.

Now, I do like WP, and want to keep working with it, but I did have to throw my two cents in here.

• 1. These forums are staffed by unpaid volunteers who help as, and when, they can in their spare time. As a result, it is almost inevitable that some topics will remain unanswered. If these free forums are not suitable for your needs, you may want to consider hiring someone

2,. Bumping topics is not allowed in these forums – full stop.

This is not the way to run support, nor for forum staff to treat regular members.

Well, you could always help out and show us how it should be done.

A member has the RIGHT to have their account deleted from a site.

That’s not possible for technical reasons and there is absolutely nothing we can do about that.

Privacy issues, is what I believe is why.

Change the email address on the account and let it lapse. Where’s the issue then?

You’re in a long queue of threads with no replies, so in the interests of users can you help reduce that number by resolving some threads? It would help your argument, otherwise you’re just contributing towards the length of the list (by asking for support). As Esmi’s explained, our free time is limited.

I do understand that. Trust me.

However, I also know that if you can’t help yet, at least let the person know that they are not being ignored. At least a post saying that “I can’t help, but have you tried looking at other places for the same issue?”

I run 4 forums of my own, as well as tech support forum admin for a big web host. Add to that, I work support for SMF forums and mod sites. We at least try to let people know that they are important to us, even if we can’t help their problem. Now, before you say anything, all the sites I work support for are also volunteer. Even the web host’s forum staff are all volunteer.

As for helping here, I’d love to try and help. My knowledge of WP is limited, but if you all would have me, I’d like to help out when it comes to such things as hosting and also help those that also use SMF forums. ??

When someone can help then they often do so. That includes replies like “Have you tried X, Y, or Z?”

When they can’t is it really helpful to reply “No idea. How do you fix that?” I myself don’t think so. ??

We at least try to let people know that they are important to us, even if we can’t help their problem.

See above reply. All requests for help are important and many do help out but honest just replying “I feel your pain” really isn’t that useful.

Also consider giving this a read, it’s not a bad place to start with.

The more the merrier! And you may be surprised that you know more about WordPress then you think.

Just peruse the forums and if you see a topic you’d like to help out with or even try then do so.

That’s how everyone starts out here.

Just as it is with other forums, helping someone out of a jam can be very satisfying and addictive.

Gee, I run so dang many forums, I know that last part….LOL

Do you have a group for support helpers?
That may help keep helpers from being caught in the spam filter.

Yes we do. It’s a mailing list that you can join via <https://lists.automattic.com/mailman/listinfo/wp-forums/>.

Please do not think that you have to be an expert to help out. For example, you’d be amazed at how many posters don’t include their site url when it really is needed. So just gathering basic details can help tremendously. And if you hit a topic that you later realise you cannot help with, just drop a line to the mailing list and someone will be along shortly to try and help as well.

Actually we feel that doing that doesn’t help, since it makes it look like SOMEONE has replied.

Looking at the no replies view is a helpful thing ??

Okay, after much thought, I have decided to try to work out my feelings on these issues.

However, in light of my last topic, does it still stand that I am welcome to join up to help with the support issues I can help with?

Of course :)! We’re always happy to have more help around here.

Thread Starter BurkeKnight

(@burkeknight)

Okay then, as long as I’m welcome, I may as well try. ??

Form filled, I’m now on the list for support. ??

Awesome – look forward to seeing you “around”! And FWIW, we do understand it’s frustrating to not get help when you need it. Personally, I hate that we can’t answer every single thread and fix everyone’s issues – but there’s just more questions than answers (whether time, resources or knowledge). Thanks for doing whatever you can – any little bit helps.

It still shows me as just a member… I thought joining would set me a a support helper group… LOL

Oh well, I’m also on the IRC channel now, so I have no idea who here is there now….LOL
