I’m in the process of setting up my blog and the layout and whatnot. I clicked on both RSS links in my footer and neither of them work.

    my URL is https://www.grooveconcepts.com/

In FireFox i get a pop up error window that says “Alert Feed is not a Registered protocol”

In IE it takes me to a page cannot be displayed error page. In the title bar it says Invalid Syntax Error

As far as I know, I really haven’t touched footer.php where these links reside. Also, I have the most recent version of wordpress installed.

Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance!

  • Please, I am having same problem and am also a beginner (obviously. Tried to change “Meta” code in sidebar. When that didnt work, I pasted old code back in and the RSS feed and comments dont work with old code (same error messages as above). Much obliged..

    My URL: https://www.renodiscontents.com/

myrna; maybe try restoring your original sidebar.php (or download from where ever you got your theme).

I wish. It seems my theme doesnt have a sidebar.php. I refreshed all files associated with the theme. I think we can safely attribute this to my cluelessness. I will keep trying things and it will eventually work…thanks for trying.

I’m encountering the same issue that was mentioned in the original post. When I click on both RSS links on my page, neither of them work.

    Blog is at epltalk.wordpress.com/

In FireFox i get a pop up error window that says “Alert Feed is not a Registered protocol”

In IE it takes me to a page cannot be displayed error page. In the title bar it says Invalid Syntax Error

Don’t use this stuff myself, but there’s tons of info on it around…. please search for “feed, protocol” using the provided search facility.

Gaffer, please read the entire thread before posting next time. Pay extra special attention to the third post in this thread, and follow the “You can see an explanation here:” link.

Hi there. I’m also receiving a 404 error when clicking on RSS in my sidebar. I’m using the Minima Plus theme and it *doesn’t* use the feed: protocol.

The link after the a href is as follows: <?php bloginfo('url'); ?>/feed/

My blog is located at https://www.waitingcasually.com

    Thanks.

Evidently the theme you are using assumes you have custom permalinks. Change the link to: https://www.waitingcasually.com/?feed=rss2

    Thanks for that, Beel. Cheers!

Beginner who is really trying–promise. I replaced code in the rss feed section to: href="https://renodiscontent.com/?feed=rss2" title="<?php _e('Syndicate this site using RSS'); ?>"><?php _e('<abbr title="Really Simple Syndication">RSS</abbr>'); ?>

Now it seems to sort of work. I get error message: “This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.”

Do I need a style associated with my rss feed? Using Red Train theme that seems to assume I have a custom permalinks like the person above. Thanks

No, that should be fine. The RSS feed should be raw code (with no style). You would only apply a style to it if you wanted your feed to look “pretty” in your browser. But, RSS feeds are for aggregators, not browsers.

So its working correctly now? Awesome. Thanks for confirming. Now I have to do the same for the comments.
