RSS link

Hacking the WordPress core files is not recommended unless you really, really, know what you’re doing. Why do you want to change this link and where is it being used on your site?

Here’s the site. The small “RSS Feed” link under any post (tiny typeface) won’t work with Chrome and a couple other browsers. It is all text and gobbledygook so I created a feedburner account and changed the feed link on top right button. Now, the link from the button is working in all browsers. But, I need to change the RSS Feed link under posts so it will work.

That’s not gobbledygook. It’s a standard, perfectly normal, RSS feed. These feeds aren’t meant to be read via a browser. They’re used in feed aggregators (and some email clients like Thunderbird). You don’t need to change anything. Nothing is broken.

If someone’s using that browser, how will they know where to click on the reader they want, etc.? It’s all html and code. There’s nothing readable to a non-webtech person. I’ll upload a screenshot.

Anyone who clicks on a link entitled “RSS feed” is likely to know exactly what they’re doing. The same format of link and feed is used by every web site that offers RSS feeds. Not just WordPress sites.

I know…I’m not trying to be argumentative. Did you click on the Chrome link above though? Please click. You’ll see that there is not way of telling what to do.

That because in many cases people don’t click on the link – they copy it and add it to the feed aggregator of their choice. Some use browser RSS plugins, some use 3rd party hosted aggregator sites and others (like me, for example) paste it into their email client which also picks up RSS feeds.

The average person is going to click the RSS Feed link and not know what to do. It’s a client that is complaining about this and she is concerned others won’t know what to do either. So this is normal and shows this way for other blogs’ RSS Feed links?

Okay…sounds like there’s nothing we can do? I don’t really, really know what I’m doing to change it.

Hmmmm…..checked in Chrome. The first is fine but the second, govt one, is the html. So, people know what to do with that? What do you do — I don’t know (the govt one — in Chrome)?
