    Hello,

I’m very new to RSS feeds, so please excuse me if I don’t use correct terminology.

    I have two questions:

    Question #1:

Could you please tell me if this plugin will allow me to “capture” a feed of whitelisted IPs from another site?

I’m setting up a site monitoring service and they have an RSS feed I’d like to add to my site for whitelisting quite a few probe servers with regular updates.

    Question #2:

I am using WordPress for a business website. I’ve read it helps to have an active website (i.e., make a lot of changes or updates) in order to improve or retain search engine listings. Since I currently only sell one product, my site will be kind of inactive except maybe for visitors and purchases. I’m also not much of a blogger.

Will it help me to have a blog at my site with an RSS feed or will search engines disregard blogs at business websites and RSS feeds when determining search placement? If a blog with RSS feed will be helpful, is there any special way I need to set things up to help with search engines?

    Thank you,
    Gail Kraker

    Hi Gail,

WP RSS Aggregator can import items from any valid feed, as long as it’s items have a <link> tag with a unique permalink. If the feed contains IP addresses as items, then it will be imported just the same. However, I’m not quite sure about what you mean by “whitelisting”. Could you kindly explain in more detail?

As for your second question, constant updates and new posts are always good for your site, be it with feed items or new posts. If you’d like you can take a look at our Feed to Post add-on if you’re interested in populating your site with posts rather than simply feed items in a list. There are also other extensions that can add extra functionality to your site.

    Hello Mark,

Thank you for your reply and the information.

I don’t really understand the whitelist thing myself, but I’m using Pingdom to monitor my site downtime and the setup instructions say to whitelist some IPs they have on a list. They said one way is to use RSS feed since the list is updated regularly.

Sorry I can’t explain it any better than that:-)

Thanks so much for the links to other add-ons. I’ll definitely look into them.

I would mark this as resolved, but I’m not sure if you’ll want to say more about whitelists, so I’ll leave it to you do mark it resolved.

    Have a nice day!

    Hi Mark,

I am considering getting the Feed to Post add-on for search engine optimization on my somewhat static page.

I came across a page about using RSS feeds for search engine optimization. Here are two new questions I have:

    1) the page says “The key to using these feeds is to have it show up in your websites page code so when search engine spiders your site, it will see all kinds of new content and thinks that your site is currently maintained and being updated frequently.

My question is do you know if it’s possible to have Feed to Post feeds show up in my page code? If so, could you explain how to do it in the simplest of terms?

    2) the page also says “If you are adding RSS to your website for Search Engine Optimization (SEO), there is one important rule that must be followed: DON’T USE JAVASCRIPT! Why not? Because search engines don’t look at JavaScript, so JavaScript feeds are useless for SEO. To make news feeds visible to search engines, their text has to be embedded into your page. If you view the source of your page and you don’t see the actual text of the news feed, then search engines aren’t going to see it either.”

My question is: Is there a way for a technically challenged user to have the text embedded in the page?

(Actually, both of these tips and my questions about them seem the same to me so I apologize in advance if they are.)

    Thank you,
    Gail

    Hi Gail,

I’m going to mark this ticket as resolved, however regarding the Feed to Post add-on please copy this message exactly on to a premium support ticket and I’ll get back to you there. This forum is for the free core version of WP RSS Aggregator only.

Having said that, what Feed to Post does is import the posts from the original sources to your site as Posts or any other Custom Post Type, meaning they will become a part of your site’s blog, as your own posts (of course, it would be good to at least link to the original source to give credit to them, but that is completely up to you).

    Thanks.

I put it into pre-sales support with the subject line:

    Feed to Post questions

Please let me know if I misunderstood and did this wrong.

    Thank you!
