RSS Feeds Based on Category

  • Is there a way to separate the RSS feeds in my WordPress categories? My boss wants me to make each category have a seperate RSS feed, and he also wants some categores that are NOT viewable and NOT have an RSS feed. I know that with some plugins like Feedburner it takes the whole WordPress Site and makes it one feed.

    My boss is treating wordpress like it’s a news tool and not like a blogging tool and it’s frustrating. I tell him I don’t know how to separate the RSS feeds, and that it’s all or nothing but he won’t take that for an answer. However if it’s really not possible, then I can at least tell him that even the WordPress community says it isn’t possible.

    If it is possible I’d like to know how.

    Built in already.

or

    (the latter example is if using pretty Permalinks)

    Great. Well that answers 1 question. How about if I want a category to NOT have an RSS feed or not be viewable by the public.

    As for the rest, it might help to understand the need a bit more. You have categories that you don’t want anyone to see? What’s the purpose or requirement behind that?

    Indeed that is exactly what he wants. I told him if he wants that, then he should make a seperate installation of wordpress, and use that for the articles he doesn’t want the general public to see. Making sure not to link to it in the main site’s navigation (not wordpress).

    Either that or make a forum, so he can set permissions on certain boards/cagegories.

    Any thoughts?

    I confess to no great thoughts. I’m still not really grokking what your boss is hoping to accomplish…

    Over in the Extend section of this site there are some plugins that can be used to restrict posts in a given category (or categories) from showing up in various views and feeds. Think something like that would be of use?
