• I wouldn’t call myself remotely an expert in WordPress although I have been using it for sometime.

I’m not 100% sure what version of Worddpress I’m on. But I think its 2.0 as I don’t recall upgrading. Too scared I would break the thing!!!

Anyway, my issue is this. When I blog and leave the

    …………………more marker

Instead of people getting the first couple of lines of the post, and then having to click to View Article. They are getting the ENTIRE post. This caused a major problem after embedded a graphic into a post – and this was download by all the people who subscribe to my blog via RSS. It gobbled up all my bandwidth and pulled the site down.

Checking this out – with say Outlook 2007 and speaking to my hosting provider it appears this misinterpretation of the blog code is the source of my problem…

Has anyone had this – and how do I fix it?
How do I test its been fixed…?

  • I don’t know how it would’ve worked in your older version of WordPress, only in the latest version. If you have the RSS feed set to display full posts, it will display everything, including that which follows the “More” tag. However, you can set the RSS feed to display just summaries; and that has been that way since I started with WordPress — but that was later than your current version.

From all that I’ve read recently, on these forums and elsewhere, I would strongly suggest that you take the plunge and upgrade your blog. There have been several advances in features, even since I’ve been using WordPress. But there have also been several bug and security fixes. I’m absolutely sure you would benefit immensely from an upgrade. And it really isn’t as difficult as you might suppose.

    I fixed my problem… It was a simple setting…

    In WordPress – Options, Reading…

Under syndication “For Each Article” was set to “Full Text”, and should have been set to “Summary”.
