• Trying to get a handle on RSS…
    Questions
    1. Will my WordPress site generate any RSS data to anyone if I do not subscribe to FeedBurner or other similar service?

    2. If I display an RSS feed from some outside source on my site,
will FeedBurner pick up and distribute the content as if I posted it?

    Will appreciate all input.

  • 1. RSS is built into many themes, but not all. You do not have to use FeedBurner. Follow the instructions in the link provided to see if your site can process an RSS feed.

    2. The default setup will produce a feed of your posts, not items in a sidebar, footer, etc.

Additionally, many modern browsers already work with RSS feeds as do many client email programs. If a website has an RSS feed, the browser’s RSS feed button will turn active.

Feeds can be managed and even turned off.

    SwansonPhotos,

Thank you for the input, but Codex and FeedBurner leave lots of unanswered questions.

It says RSS is built in, so it appears that FeedBurner is not a requirement and posts, comments, and other info will find its way on line regardless? What if I’d rather not?

Also, our site will be mostly pages, not posts. WordPress has plugins to transmit pages to FeedBurner, but there are no controls to to limit which pages are fed. What if we want to exclude some pages?

Looks like I have lots to learn, but do appreciate your input.

    V.
