• Hello,

The RSS feed on my client’s website displays errors and does not validate when using the W3 Feed Validator or Validome tools. The validation error in the W3 Feed Validator is: line 269, column 83: XML parsing error: <unknown>:269:83: not well-formed (invalid token) and the validation error in Validome is: An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x5) was found in the CDATA section. I have reviewed the affected lines displayed and there does not seem to be any “hidden” spaces or invalid characters that could be causing the errors. The RSS feed for the website is https://expertelevation.com/feed. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is currently running a very real risk of being hacked? You need to upgrade WordPress asap.

    Hello,

Thank you for the reply. I have tried disabling the plugins and changing the theme to the default, but this has not fixed the problem. I have narrowed down the problem to a character or tag in a specific post that is causing the display and validation issues, but when I view the line in question, there does not seem to be any invalid characters or unclosed tags.

The website is managed by WP Engine and will be upgraded in the next couple of days.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Can you give us a little more detail?

    Hello,

Here is the link to the feed that was run through the W3 validator: https://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fexpertelevation.com%2Ffeed#l387. The validation looks like it might be failing on the target attribute of the links, but there are other links before that use target=”_blank”, so I am kind of baffled by what is causing the errors. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
