It looks like the RSS feed ‘transmits’ events in the reverse order: upcoming events last, far future first. That doesn’t make sense. I cannot find anything in settings to change this.

Some feed readers have an option to change the order on the receiving end, but others don’t have that. Like the default WP RSS widget.

TEC’s demo feed https://demo.theeventscalendar.com/events/feed has the same reverse order, which makes me believe this is not an issue specific to our site, but here’s some details WP 6.4.3, PHP 8.1, TEC 6.3.3.1.

We’re not a commercial site selling tickets or anything, we’re volunteers informing a specific community about public space events.

    Hi @willemb2,

    Thank you for reaching out.

For me to understand and learn more about your setup, could you provide the version of the following?

    1. PHP
    2. WordPress
    3. The Events Calendar
    4. Theme and Version

    Hello @tristan083,

    1. PHP 8.1.22
    2. WordPress 6.4.3
    3. The Events Calendar 6.3.3.1
    4. Theme and Version ColorMag Pro 4.1.4

But as I wrote, I’m seeing the same issue at your demo calendar feed.

    Hi @willemb2

    Thanks for your response.

I observed that the events in our demo site’s feed are arranged in the correct order. However, I noticed that the sequence was reversed when I tried to view it on an RSS viewer. Let me share this with the team and I’ll make sure to provide you with an update as soon as I have additional information.

    Hi @willemb2

I’m glad you brought this to our attention, I can see how this issue impacts your RSS feed for events.

We’ve created an internal ticket [BTRIA-2295] to address this issue and I’ve included your specific use case in it to communicate it to our team.

We prioritize bugs by taking into consideration the number of users impacted as well as how the bug impacts one’s ability to run an event/sell tickets. I don’t have a specific timeline as to when this issue will be resolved, but trust that our team is aware. Our team communicates updates and bug fixes in our newsletter and via our changelog.

I’m happy to help if any other questions are coming up around this topic, otherwise I’ll go ahead and close this ticket.

Thanks again for reporting this issue and for using The Events Calendar! Have a great day.

    Hello @d0153,

Thanks for the update. If I can help by doing beta testing, let me know.

In the meantime I have come across this topic on your old forum. I tried the code provided there in my child theme’s functions.php, but it doesn’t change the order. Maybe TEC itself has undergone changes since 2018 causing that fix to work no longer.

    Hi @willemb2

I’m sorry for the delay in getting back to you. To learn how to customize the calendar RSS feed, please refer to our knowledgebase article.

As always, please test it first on your staging site before applying to your live site.

    Hi @d0153

I had already searched your KB. But that article only provides code to order events by publication date. We need ‘upcoming events’, starting with the first coming. The RSS sends them out in reverse order. That is of no use if you have like 100 events up to over a year ahead like we do.

Above you mentioned Internal Bug Ticket Reference: BTRIA-2295 to address this issue. I have been checking the release notes regularly over the past 3 months, but didn’t see it come by.
