In the last few weeks, my RSS feeds are no longer recognizing paragraph breaks from my posts. Site: unefemme.net

The feed generated from WordPress itself (https://unefemme.net/feed) does, but they are being dropped by an email service that uses the same feed as the “subscribe to posts” feed (https://unefemme.net/feed) and in Feedburner itself. I’ve tried adding </br> tags in posts but they get dropped when I save a draft and exit. I’ve contacted my theme developer who is unable to determine why the paragraph breaks show up in one version of the feed but not another.

I am not proficient in the technical side or with CSS code. I’ve read through the other threads from a few years ago, but did not find a solution for my blog/feed. Thanks in advance for your help!

You shouldn’t need to modify your feed to get paragraph breaks to display.

Would you please disable the redirect to Feedburner, so we can work directly with the source feed without Feedburner’s interference (and to of course rule-out Feedburner as the problem too)?

Hi James, thanks! I’ve deactivated the FD Feedburner plugin, is that what you needed?

    Thanks!

The good news is, your feed is valid: https://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Funefemme.net%2Ffeed

What’s interesting here is that paragraph breaks are visible in your feed for your most recent post: https://unefemme.net/2016/05/travel-friendly-neutral-separates.html screenshot: https://d.pr/i/1goOH/4BpvV4lw

But not (at least) the two after: https://unefemme.net/2016/05/shopping-eyewear.html and https://unefemme.net/2016/05/reinvention.html screenshot: https://d.pr/i/1guoQ/5QmaBRvy

I’m not seeing anything in the source code of the posts themselves that would cause this either, so let’s start ruling out some third-party elements.

Try deactivating all plugins, then check https://unefemme.net/feed in your feed reader (you might need to reload/refresh the feed depending on how your reader operates). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme, then check https://unefemme.net/feed in your feed reader, to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

If you don’t have your own feed reader, https://www.rssowl.org/ is simple, free, and cross-platform.

Thanks. What’s interesting is that in the most recent post, what you’re seeing as paragraph breaks are actually where I had images inserted that aren’t displaying in the feed either.

I’ll go through these troubleshooting steps (may take a couple of days) and let you know if not resolved.

I’m unable to download rssowl (Apple doesn’t seem to like it) so will try to find another rss reader.

Sorry about that, how did it work after that?

Still trying to find an alternate feed reader. BTW, I unplugged Jetpack as I’ve read it’s often a culprit but it still did not correct the feed, went out last night without paragraphs or images.

https://www.vienna-rss.org/ should work, or a free account at https://www.newsblur.com/

Got it. I’m seeing paragraphs in the newsblur feed, but some images are still stripped. If I deactivate plugins will the feed itself update if refreshed or will I have to wait for the next published post to see results?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

With Newsblur, it looks like you’ll actually need to publish a new post to refresh the feed. I thought they had a dedicated option for that, but I’m not able to find it.

So, if you’re ok with that, try a post with paragraph breaks, images, all plugins deactivated, and the Twenty Sixteen theme enabled.

If you’re not ok with that, I totally understand, try Vienna then which will allow you to refresh the feed after deactivating all plugins and switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme.

I don’t have Twenty Sixteen as an option, will Twenty Fifteen work?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

Yes, that will work too. ??

    Nope, didn’t fix the problem.

Ok, so the feed is still redirecting to Feedburner. You have to do all of the above while using the source feed, not the Feedburner feed.

    Your source feed is https://unefemme.net/feed

Feedburner caches feeds to take load off of your server, but that also means that it caches any problems too, like mysteriously missing paragraph breaks, so all troubleshooting needs to be done without Feedburner in the loop.

OK, then I’ll try again later. Thanks.
