I started an aggregator site and I wanted to add recent posts from this WordPress site that I own
    https://thelivingword.uk

The usual theme is Genesis Eleven 40 Pro

I changed it to WP standard theme Twenty Nineteen for testing
I have deactivated all plugins including JetPack and Akismet, for testing
I have used validator.w3.org and SimplePie and both return a ‘404’
I have looked for the usual line in Developer Tools view i.e. https://thelivingword.uk/feed and I can’t see it

    Suggestions please!!!

  • Your site is inserting /index.php after the .com for ALL URLs, so, for instance, your FOUNDATIONAL category URL is

    https://thelivingword.uk/index.php/category/foundational/

    Instead of the normal:

    https://thelivingword.uk/category/foundational/

And your RSS feed URL is:

    https://thelivingword.uk/index.php/feed/

… instead of the expected https://thelivingword.uk/feed/

That’s very helpful. But I’m not sure what I can do about it?

Any wisdom as to why this is occurring?

Some attention to the Permalinks has resolved much of this. All the URLs were inserting /index.hmtl/ in the string which of course was not recognised as a ‘clean’ RSS feed.

Now I have a secondary problem.

On validator.w3.org and simplepie.org, instead of ‘404’ I am seeing:

https://thelivingword.uk/feed/ is invalid XML, likely due to invalid characters. XML error: Invalid character at line 398, column 37.

I don’t know what that means or how I can fix it.
