• Hi there,

I’ve searched through the forum trying to find something similar, with no luck so far, so apologies in advance for a lllllllloooooooonnnnngggg post and thanks for reading through!

I’m new to WP, but am beginning to feel comfortable editing files etc (a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!) and made a lot of progress with my site over the weekend.

However, in the process, I think I somehow deleted my RSS feed. Initially the WP feed at the bottom of my site https://www.clearcommunication.ie worked fine, but I wanted to redirect it via feedburner which also initially worked fine. It was when I tried to add the little orange RSS button to the site that it all went horribly wrong. Now I can’t quite remember how I got here, but if I go to https://www.clearcommunication.ie/feeds, I get this message:

Warning: main(/hsphere/local/home/clearcom/clearcommunication.ie/clearcommunication.ie/wp-rss2.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home/clearcom/clearcommunication.ie/clearcommunication.ie/wp-feed.php on line 29

Warning: main(/hsphere/local/home/clearcom/clearcommunication.ie/clearcommunication.ie/wp-rss2.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home/clearcom/clearcommunication.ie/clearcommunication.ie/wp-feed.php on line 29

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required ‘/hsphere/local/home/clearcom/clearcommunication.ie/clearcommunication.ie/wp-rss2.php’ (include_path=’.:/hsphere/shared/apache/php/lib/php’) in /hsphere/local/home/clearcom/clearcommunication.ie/clearcommunication.ie/wp-feed.php on line 29

In an effort to fix this, I deleted my feedburner feed and tried to set it up again. But when I do so, I get this error:
The feed address you entered includes an invalid leading or trailing character in the hostname. FeedBurner cannot resolve an address with leading or trailing punctuation. Try providing your feed’s unique IP address to avoid this problem. (Blogger users hosted on blogspot.com cannot provide a unique IP address. We recommend a hostname that uses only alphanumeric characters.)

and feedvalidator isn’t validating it any more either ??

I’m trying 2 different Feedburner plugins: FD Feedburner Plugin – which looks like it might work
    and
Feedburner Feed Replacement – which looks like it probably won’t!

Any help solving this is GREATLY appreciated.

  • Nothing related to rss feeds.
Your permalinks are screwed up: clicking on a post title you get this:
    https://clearcommunication.ie/clearcommunication.ie/2006/01/23/hello-world/
Notice the repeating domain name. Fix it and things should work!

    Hi Moshu,

Thanks. I tried unsuccessfully to get WP working on clearcommunication by loading it onto my server myself. Then last week, I realised that my hosting provider was offering the option to dowload WP direct from my control panel.

So that’s what I did. Not being a techie, I called them for advice on how to ensure that the homepage of Clearcommunication.ie is my blog. The advice I got was to save WP into a folder called /clearcommunication.ie. A few tweaks in the control panel later and clearcommunication.ie/clearcommunication.ie is the homepage. Not how I would ideally want it, but it was as good as I could get from my hosting provider.

Now they’ve removed the option to download blog s/w from the control panel, so I’m guessing that means they’ll no longer offer support of any kind – given that the guy on the phone was really surprised WP was on offer in the 1st place!

I’d like to fix the double clear communication URL, but
    a) I’m not sure how to do this and
    b) I’m not sure it’ll fix the problem, given that the feed did originally work when i first installed WP.

What do you think? Again, thanks for your patience, it’s probably frustrating for techies to get questions like this!

Don’t worry, we are here to help – if we can.
#1. I’d get rid of that stupid host as soon as possible!
(however, it might also be a misunderstanding on your behalf: on many hosts when you log into the site through FTP, you see your own domain name as a folder. Didn’t they mean to upload WP there?)

#2. Never trust any kind of automatic install.

#3. Good articles on moving WP – Moving_WordPress

#4. Having only 5 posts… I’d start from scratch with a clean manual install in the location you want.

    Thanks Moshu,
I’ll give the manual install a go – fingers x’d it’ll work this time ??
