RSS feed instead of homepage

I have spent several hours now trying to figure this one out on my own, an figure its time to ask for some help.

Currently when I visit my blog homepage it looks like it is displaying my rss feed. However if I press the refresh button (once the feed is displayed) the homepage is then correctly displayed. Previously it was displaying the “index of /” directory listing prior to a refresh (and then the correct homepage after a refresh) but I turned off indexing in webhosts cpanel and now the rss feed is being displayed.

Whats worse is from what I can tell this is only an intermittent problem….a few days ago it was working fine and I have made no changes. I noticed this behavior once before a few weeks ago as well but went away.

I have verified that “DirectoryIndex index.php index.html” is in my .htaccess file.
