Hi AJ, I’m trying to push new posts from a custom post type to MailChimp to automatically notify subscribers of new content. The default RSS for the post type I’ve created via Post Types Unlimited (https://example.com/feed/?post_type=example) includes minimal information, just the post title and URL.

I don’t see anything in the UI for this plugin that would allow me to build a more robust RSS feed. I know RSS has few use cases these days, so totally understand why you wouldn’t put much time into this, but I’m wondering if there’s a way for me to do this without getting too deep in the weeds. Not a coder, so if I’m missing something in your UI, or if you know of a good shortcut I can take to accomplish this, I’d be grateful.

    Hi,

Correct, this plugin is for registering your post types. Creating custom RSS feeds wouldn’t make sense in a plugin like this.

I hate massive plugins that try and do everything and simply create a ton of bloat slowing down the site for most people. For example most people using this plugin will never need to modify their RSS feeds so any code added for that would just create bloat for them. It would make more sense if you need custom RSS feeds to install a separate plugin that does that only so only the people that need it have that added code on their site.

Especially if we are talking about a whole UI for building feeds, this in itself would be a massive plugin (much larger then this one). Especially if supports complex feeds such as Podcast feeds.

I’m sure there are some plugins out there you can use to modify your standard RSS feed. But I haven’t tried any myself so I can’t recommend one. Creating custom RSS feeds is quite simple though using custom code.

ps: If you want I could create a custom feed for you. I charge $75/hr and this should be a fairly quick task. Email me at wpexplorer [at] gmail dot com if interested.

That said, I tried Googling how to create an RSS feed specifically for Mailchimp but I’m not finding any documentation. I wonder if it’s perhaps locked for members only. I would need some sort of guide on how you want the RSS feed (aka what items should be added and any unique tags).

Yep, I hear you, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. I showed the client a simple version that just uses Post Title, no other details, and he seems satisfied with that, so I’ll take you up on the custom code offer on the next project that comes up. Thanks for your always fast and thorough replies, and take good care!
