I can’t download new plugins as I get the following message: “An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.remarpro.com or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”

Also, on the dashboard under “WordPress Events and News” I get the following error messages:

RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: cURL error 7: Failed to connect to www.remarpro.com port 80: Connection timed out

RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: cURL error 7: Failed to connect to planet.www.remarpro.com port 443: Connection timed out

I have contacted my dedicated server support and this is their response:

“I have been looking into this, and it does look like that is the issue, your server just cannot connect to www.remarpro.com:
    ———-begin support response————
    — www.remarpro.com ping statistics —
    11 packets transmitted, 0 received, +11 errors, 100% packet loss, time 9999ms

You do have network connectivity though:

    — google.com ping statistics —
2 packets transmitted, 2 received, 0% packet loss, time 1001ms

And when trying to connect to www.remarpro.com the packets do leave your server:

    [root@ded3845 ~]# traceroute www.remarpro.com
traceroute to www.remarpro.com (66.155.40.249), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
    1 209.182.212.2 (209.182.212.2) 0.248 ms 1.441 ms 2.521 ms
    2 * * *
    3 * * *
    4 198.46.80.2 (198.46.80.2) 3.410 ms 4.135 ms 4.819 ms
    5 ae0-3019.cr0-was1.ip4.gtt.net (69.31.31.41) 5.446 ms * *
    6 * * *
    7 * * *

    13 * * *
    14 * * *
    15 * * *
    16 * * *
    17 * * *

Just they never make it there. As the packets are getting out of our network though, we really don’t control that. I would definitely try and check if www.remarpro.com has your IP blocked by chance, for whatever reason: 209.182.213.19

    ———-end support response————

Any help in resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Can someone check and see if my ip has been blocked? This is a new ip for my site as I have just moved to a new server.

    Thank you

    Mark

  • Hi Mark,
This may happen sometimes. It is a network/DNS related problem. It will be cleared automatically. Please wait a while and try again.

    Good day!

I’ve asked the team that manages such things to take a look, but in the meantime they suggest it may be a rate-limiting thing with too many accesses coming from the same IP. If so, it will clear up on its own.

    Thanks for the previous responses.

It appears that the cause of the blockage is my CSF firewall. When I turn the firewall off, I can download plugins and the curl error goes away.

When the firewall is on I get ““An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.remarpro.com or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”

I’ve tried the “Flush” solution shown here but it did not solve the problem: https://forum.configserver.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9578&p=26562#p26562

This is a brand new install of CSF straight from the hosting company. Does anyone know enough about CSF to solve this thread?

    Try this command.
    csf -df

This will remove all blocked requests in your server.
Let me know whether this works.

I tried it but it did not change anything.

To add to my problems it appears that I can not reach WordPress to update the plugins either. I assume I can’t do a core update also.

An error occurred while updating Health Check: Download failed. cURL error 7: Failed to connect to downloads.www.remarpro.com port 443: Connection timed out

    csf -t

Try this code to list whether any requests are blocked by the firewall.

    [root@ded3845 ~]# csf -t
csf: There are no temporary IP entries

Looks like the error has nothing to do with CSF. I think @sterndata already gave the answer to this problem.

    RESOLVED:

The problem was the CSF firewall was setup to only allow traffic from the United States. I thought this would be a good idea to root out most of the hacking traffic since 99% of my traffic is from the United States.

Little did I know that the www.remarpro.com server is located in Canada.

Adding “US,CA” to the “CC_ALLOW_FILTER” solved my problem.

    Thanks.
