This is all I get using any method to link to the site feed(s) URLs:

“[an error occurred while processing this directive]”.

    Permalinks are enabled.

Whenever the RSS button is clicked the browsers try to download an XML file (with no extension) but will not open feed page.

  • Hi, would you mind posting the link here? Also, have you tried testing with all plugins disabled?

Yes. That was one of the first things. Tried with various browsers. Swapped themes, too. All the same.

Hi, I’m getting a 403 Permission Denied error when attempting to access your RSS feed. This is something you’ll need to investigate with the web server or contact your host about.

    Thank you.

That’s not what I get here. Will look into.

While searching for solutions I found this. Seems as though I’m not the only one with this problem.

I really just want to know how to *set up* an RSS button on my blog. This has been the most challenging thing I have ever encountered in WordPress. There is no basic instruction on this.” — A frustrated user.

So far there still seems to be no instruction set on how to set up and configure RSS on your own site. The videos found are more advertising than help.

I don’t have a “blog”. I want to set this up rss on my website. Need succinct and complete setup instructions. WordPress’ own information is useless.

A lot of feed pages look like this: https://www.bowl.com/rss/Default.aspx. In older versions of WordPress this was the case for my site too.

Upgrades fixed what wasn’t broken and now it is broken!

Hi, in the latest WordPress (4.9.8) the RSS feed is located at /feed. Can you verify that you have the feed.php file in your wp-includes folder? There should also be 6 other PHP files that start with feed.

What should be in the feed folder? That wasn’t on the site.
The files you list are in the includes folder.
Re-Downloaded WordPress 4.9.8 and it does not include feed folder. That accounts for the feed folder being missing. Its not a part of the install. The browser is looking for something that should be in that folder. There is no information on what that is and/or how to set it up.

Hi, I apologize for the confusion, by /feed I was referring to the URL (example.com/feed) where you can view the feed. All of the necessary RSS feed PHP files are in the wp-includes folder. I’m still getting a 403 error when trying to access your feed. Take a look at your server error log and contact your hosting provider if you need help resolving this. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to take a look at file permissions. The health check plugin is a good resource to use in troubleshooting.

Fix My Feed RSS Repair turned out to be the answer. This plugin was made to fix issues with whitespace in your rss feeds.
