Rough Product Search

    Hello guys,

    We have been using Botiga theme for a while and it is really amazing.

    Lately we found a problem with the products search feature; the search is very basic/rough and this results in many irrelevant search results.

    Example:

    • Navigate to our website and search for red
    • You will find that the product Christmas Fairy Lights is in the second page before more relevant products. The problem is this product doesn’t include any thing red about it (Tags, categories, name, nor description include the word red at all!)
    • Another product that you will find in the third page is Our Prayers Arrangement which is irrelevant at all (also nothing red about it)
    • After further investigation we found that the search feature is just searching for the sequence r e d and not the whole word:
      • In the case of the Christmas Fairy Lights product, the short description includes the word “covered” (covered ??)
      • In case of the Our Prayers Arrangement, the short description includes the word “gathered“

    You can replicate the problem with other keywords and you will always get irrelevant products due to this problem.

    Please fix this ASAP as it is very frustrating for the website users.

    Thanks for your query.

    Search functionality should be defaulted to WordPress core code. Botiga theme doesn’t make any changes with it. To verify it yourself, try temporarily switching to one of default WordPress theme, then run your test.

    To exclude particular words from search result, you may need additional plugin or third-party script.
