Role Syncing

  • Hello –

    I had just updated a site that had V1 running to the latest version of UM and I have noticed that the “role syncing” feature is no longer visible anywhere. This is a huge problem because I am using this in conjunction with RCP and upon a user signing up for a subscription, they received one role from RCP for the subscription level, and one from UM to have access to their profile. This worked before because the role for UM called “member” was sync’d with the role that was given to a user when their subscription was paid for.

    However, since updating to V2, that UM “member” role has disappeared from all active subscriptions and it is blocking them from content they had paid for. Luckily, there weren’t tons of them and I was able to go through pretty quickly to update each user, but what happened to this feature?? Is it no longer part of the UM plugin? AM I just not seeing it because it was moved?

    Why was this taken out? I built an entire app around this feature to allow those who Subscribed to a site to have personal profiles and belong to a Member Directory and now it doesn’t exist??

    Ugh, now what do I do? How do I had a custom UM Role to those who have paid for a subscription through RCP? What hooks are available for this so that I can run a check – if User Role is “X”, add UM Community Role “X” to this user too?

    This is heartbreaking.

    After further reading, my apologies for the freak out, the change over to using WP Roles instead of Custom UM Roles makes sense, I should’ve read the Changelog more thoroughly.

    One question however, there is a “Reset UM Role Meta” on a few different Roles in the Users list in UM, what exactly does that do? Does that remove the Community Roles entirely leaving just the WP Role? I can’t seem to find anything in the Docs about it.
