    Hi,

I recently took over a wordpress website from a friend of a friend and I want to make some changes that is part of my SEO work. Currently the site already have robots.txt https://directorsoi.com/robots.txt but I can’t touch it in my wordpress setting or anywhere in my account. Now my question is, If I install WP Robots.txt in my wordpress, will it add another robots.txt file or it will now allow me to add/edit to robots.txt file easily within the setting > reading menu?

Looking forward to get a reply

  • The robots.txt file is a file that you can add to your web root directory to tell search engines about files and directories that you do not want them to index.
And you can’t find robots.txt file in WordPress dashboard.
If you want to edit/add robots.txt file then login to FTP; if robots.txt file is already there then simply edit it as per as your requirement.

Thanks @bswajitgiri. Thanks for your explanation which I already know.

I installed the WP Robots.txt plug-in which will give you view in the setting > reading menu in the dashboard of your wordpress but I figured out it doesn’t automatically update the robots.txt file in my root directory. I guess the only way to successfully add/edit the folders is by using FTP access.

    Thanks

    Welcome @WordPressApprentice.
You are using Latest Version of WP(i.e 4.2.3)
And you are using WP Robots Txt plugin and that is Compatible up to: WP Version 3.6.1
And that’s why(may be) the plugin doesn’t dynamically generated robots.txt from within the WP application.
