Robots.txt file?

Hi, I was under the impression that wordpress automatically created a robots.txt file for a blog you publish..today I went searching for it in my files and couldn’t find it anywhere. Could I have deleted it by mistake or am I wrong to assume wordpress auto creates one for you?

If it’s the case that I have to build one can you recommend a plugin that will automate the process for me?
