robots.txt cannot crawl after enabling maintenance mode

hum, strange. The plugin should not affect that.
When I goto your site I actually see your site right now. https://www.orcainstitute.com/
robots.txt looks fine.

I know – weird eh. I disabled the plugin – no need to have it in maintenance mode when the I can’t access the older content to use to update the new site.

I have this plugin on another site – the plugin is active – and from the archive site I get the same can’t be crawled message but when I click on the “see https://mainstreettheclub.com/robots.txt page” I get sent to the maintenance mode page.

I don’t have this plugin on my own site and I can access the archived pages.

I think more tests maybe.

OK, making more sense now. In maintenance mode the site will return a 503 to tell Google not to index it. Your robots.txt should not be served through WordPress core however. It should be a static file that is always served. How did you create your robots.txt?

I didn’t, at least not intentionally – The site has been admined by a few different people before I ended up helping get it updated. I did install the last WordPress theme though and it could have been from there. Checking to see if there is anything in the editor.
