I’m trying to find a way to stop search engine robots (goooglebot and googlenewsbot specifically) from trying to index comments on a blog I help run (www.sticksoffire.com). This is something that Google News needs (blocking bots from trying to index comments) in order to list us.

I’m guessing that rel=”nofollow” should be inserted into the comment framework but I am nto sure where…?

    Any help appreciated.

OK, I actually figured it out:

On your Themes directory, there is a comments.php file. On line 36 or so (at small class=”commentmetadata” ) I inserted rel=”nofollow” into the anchor tag.

What I am not sure about is if this will make Google News happy and prevent comment text from being indexed by robots.
