Try this: Install and activate Akismet

Mike I thought the idea of the SI Captcha is that one has to put in the scrambled letters so that this does not occur?
    Is akismet the only solution?

I am also finding massive amounts of spam.

Akismet does seem to (currently) be the best method of controlling it.
I’ve tried bad behaviour, anti-spam bee and Si Captcha plugins – but nothing works as well as Akismet (which is a bit of a pain to set up with the API, especially when working with a number of clients).

As WP gets bigger, so too does the spam issue.

Hello Mike, surprised no answer at this time
Possibly my explanation was wrong : the spam I am getting is through the Comments Section at the bottom of the blog. But to place a comment they need to put in the scrambled letters
“A new comment is waiting for your approval … “
Mike, is Akismet the solution to stopping comments being placed by Robots?
    Please advise
