Are there any information of how long a certain version of WordPress will get security updates?

I see that 3.6 was stopped receiving updates 2013-Sep-1, but all following versions gets the latest updates. Was it a mayor codebase restructuring between 3.6 and 3.7?

(I have a client that’s stuck with WP 3.7. Their old custom theme will crash when updating to 3.8.)

Roadmap for security updates on older versions

There is no roadmap for updating earlier versions. Yes, security updates may occur but you cannot depend on that. I believe the earlier versions (3.7+) were updated because of the fact that those updates were compatible with the patch. But you really can’t plan on that and some vulnerabilities are not back ported.

The security roadmap really is “Please ensure that you are running the latest version of WordPress.”

(I have a client that’s stuck with WP 3.7. Their old custom theme will crash when updating to 3.8.)

Going from 3.7 to 4.2.2 shouldn’t be a problem if you can identify why their custom theme is crashing. What are the errors? You can always replicate their site on a test install and then see where the problem is. ??

    Thanks for the info!

No if course the best scenario would be to fix the bugs and update to the latest version. I’ll do my best to advice them to do that ??
