Right Sidebar Moving to Bottom

  • Hi,

    My right sidebar keeps moving to the bottom of the page. tried loads of different themes, still the same.

    Any ideas?

    I’m using version 2.7.

  • It looks like the sidebar is inside of the <div id="content"> rather than after it. Make sure that you close that div (</div>) before the sidebar in the index.php file of your theme. I think that should do it.

    And by the way, since you provided a link to your site, you don’t have to copy and paste all the CSS over to the forum. We can check it when we visit your site.

    @alexmansfield: I have the same problem. No matter which theme I use, it is the same. The right sidebar always goes to the bottom. I thought the problem had something to do with my previous version of WP, but I did the upgrade this weekend and the problem persists. Any ideas?

    Sounds like a buggy Widget/Plugin.
    Deactivate one at a time and check your page. When the buggy one gets deactivated, you can ask questions from there.

    Does it do it on every page, or just certain types of pages? Also, is it limited to the theme you’re using, or does it happen regardless?

    There are 2 common reasons for this. First, like I explained above, the side bar somehow gets included in the div that holds the content. Second, either the content block or the sidebar are too wide, and therefore won’t fit next to each other, causing the sidebar to drop below the content.

    If you post a link we can take a look at it.

    @alexmansfield: Just so you know, it does happen with all the themes I try. However, I have noticed with the current theme it only happens in the homepage, when you take a click on a post the sidebar is displayed correctly.
    My current theme has two different views: blog view and magazine view, I currently have it on magazine view as it is the only way to keep the sidebar on the right and not in the bottom, so Im going to set it to blog view so you can check it out and tell me what you think.

    @cryptidwolf: Tried disabling ALL the plugins and nothing happened, the right sidebar was always at the bottom. Thanks anyways!

    Have you checked your site for

    It looks like the sidebar is inside the `<div id=”post-index”>’

    Make sure you close that div before calling the sidebar.

    No, actually that seems quite strange that the same problem would be present in different themes. I’m not sure why that would happen.
