• Hello,

I have been working at securing my site and thought I would password protect my wp-admin directory. I did it within cPanel. And couldn’t get it going so I contacted my host for support. This is what the support chap said:

I think your rewrite rules were interfering with being able to visit wp-admin, so I placed ‘RewriteEngine Off’ in the .htaccess in the wp-admin folder.

I had not put a .htaccess file in the directory so I presume the password protect in cPanel did it? I don’t think there is one there by default. Anyway, whatvi need to know is whether that RewriteEngine off thing is a good thing to do?

If it is, I will need to do it on another site.

    Thanks

    martin
