Rewrite root domain (index.html) but not index.php

  • I have WordPress installed in the root folder. I would like the visitor to be redirected to a subfolder if not example.com/index.php is specified.
    I did a htaccess rewrite and redirect but the I could not access the front end of WordPress pages.

    Can you please advice?
