revisions without autosave

I like having revisions turned on, but do not love the autosave feature. I have set autosave interval to long periods but have still had more trouble than help from it. So I have been looking for ways to turn it off without turning off revisions or changing php files in wp-admin. So today, I set the autosave interval to zero, not sure if it is going to work but I wanted to make sure it wasn’t a bad idea. thanks for chiming in.
