• I tried combining the Better Notifications plugin with Revisionize so that I could trigger a notification to the Admins when a revision has been submitted for review. It didn’t work when I set the email to go out when a page is pending review. I originally thought that might work since a new Draft is created… but it did not. Do you have any ideas of how I can trigger a notification with a link to the revision when submitted?

    Thanks!

Other plugins I’ve tried with similar functionality didn’t work with ACF so THANK YOU for that.

@amycarolyn – I haven’t used the Better Notifications plugin before but I will experiment with it. Please help me understand your use case better:

You have a user with Contribute or Editor privileges that is creating a Revision?
You want Better Notifications to send Admin an email when this happens?

Also, since you’re using ACF, please take note of this one bug that I still have to fix. You can work around it for now. The bug is is you edit ACF fields in a Revision and then click “Publish” right away – the changes won’t be published!! Instead, click “Save Draft” first, let the Revision save, then click “Publish” after.

Yes, that’s correct. A person with Editor privileges creates a Revision, which needs to be approved by an Admin to Publish. That is why the Admin needs to get the notification.

I know your plugin doesn’t exactly do this but it was the only one I tried that was similar and actually worked. I plan to hide the Publish button from Editors with CSS so that they only see the Revision option.

@amycarolyn – I’ve looked through the BNFW code and don’t see an easy way to make the two plugins work together. It would likely require that plugin developer to make some changes that allow me (and other devs) to add features more easily.

To be honest I haven’t considered the different user-levels enough. Your feedback provides great ideas for new features. I hope Revisionize is still useful to you in the short term. I’ll think about adding some settings that satisfy your use-case better.

Feel free to continue the discussion here. Thanks!

Before noticing your response a light bulb went on and I realized I could probably just change the Revision status to Pending instead of Draft. I did that in your plugin and it did trigger the notification. I don’t know yet if there are other issues associated with my solution.

Since the post status is determined at the point you click Revisionize, and again when you save your revision, two notifications are sent. If you clicked Revisionize and the post was created as a Draft, and then you could ‘Save as Pending’, that would work.

Just wanted to update you that my bright idea is a no go.

@amycarolyn, Sorry that didn’t work out for you. I’ve contacted the Better Notifications author to try to work something out, but please be patient!
