Not sure what happened – I upgraded to 6.0.6.2 recently and all seemed fine. I chose not to migrate to the new data system because I have some custom integrations dependent on the old one. Yesterday my server started going crazy – in hindsight, I think what was happening was the system was indeed updating. Today, I have no events showing in the calendar, though they are still there in the old system as posts, and when I look at the Event Calendar in the plugins, it no longer has a prompt to upgrade the system, but it also doesn’t have an option to Reverse Migration as indicated here https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/migrating/.

Now, when it was going crazy with traffic yesterday, it was taking my site down – I had to repeatedly restart mysql, and finally ended up adding aditional capacity to my server, as I didn’t have time to really investigate what was going on. In short, I suspect that I now have a corrupt state where I am in between data systems and nothing works.

I may need to restore to an older backup and manually recreate some events, but wondering a) if anyone has any ideas on fixing this, and b) if anyone knows why the data system migration would have kicked off without my requesting it.

    Thanks.

  • Hi @irashkin

    Glad you reached out.

We have not heard of any migration process executing on it’s own. The migration process involves two tasks, a preview and a migration, both which need a user input to run.

Also, once a site upgrades to any 6.0 version, it removes any legacy templates, functions and views. Any custom code that referenced older code would immediately not work. So the situation sounds odd.

Your idea to restore a recent backup sounds like the best option to get your site back and then add the missing events.

    Best,

    Rob

Thanks Rob, I did go the backup route and that worked fine. I’ve now updated the custom code to handle the new format, so fingers crossed.
